According to the tender terms, published in the Official Gazette on Friday, the deadline for completion of the project is three months from the date of the contract.
The project includes the renovation of the white concrete exterior of the building, the roofs, the interior flooring, and the restrooms. The tender applicants must also find a "windbreak solution for the main access door to the parking lot," a "solution effective from the date of the contract," and a "staircase solution for access to the roofs."
Proposals for the rehabilitation of this municipal facility can be submitted until 11:59 pm on August 5th, as mentioned in a press release.
The Matosinhos Mortuary has been in operation since 2009 and a second crematorium was constructed at the end of 2023.
Residents of the neighbourhood adjacent to the mortuary complained in March of last year that in the previous months they had been witnessing large amounts of black smoke and particles emitting from the crematorium.
At the time, the head of the municipality's Environmental Division, Paulo Rodrigues, told Lusa that air quality analyses were "impeccable" and that, of the 1,263 cremations that took place in 2023, only "half a dozen instances of black smoke" had been recorded.
