The sole deputy of the People-Animals-Nature party, Inês de Sousa Real, will submit a bill to parliament that aims to regulate the air transport of animals and wants to ban “the transport of pets in the hold of aircraft, except in emergency situations”.

“Airlines must allow the transport of pets in the cabin, and they must be transported in suitable carriers that guarantee safety and comfort, and that can be accommodated safely”.

The party wants airlines to offer “alternatives for the safe transportation of animals in the cabin, considering the size, weight and characteristics” of each one and, when transportation is not “absolutely necessary”, to ensure “continuous supervision systems to monitor the animal’s condition during the flight”, mechanisms for “rapid intervention in case of emergency” and the “possibility of immediately informing the owner of any adverse situations that may occur with the animal during the flight”.
