The event takes place over the weekend, from July 11 to 13, and promises to bring together thousands of people at the Jardim dos Sentidos in Guia.
Following the success of the first edition, the Piri-Piri Festival is back for three days of spicy food. The event is organized by the Albufeira City Hall, in collaboration with chef Nuno Bergonse, and the Guia Parish Council. This year's edition features 20 pepper producers from various parts of the country – four more than last year. The venue will also host several exhibitors dedicated to showcasing sauces produced abroad.
The mayor of Albufeira emphasizes the importance of Piri-Piri to the "gastronomic identity of the municipality, especially with regard to Frango da Guia." José Carlos Rolo also admits that the initiative "is part of the executive's strategy to promote Albufeira as a premier tourist destination." "We expect to improve on the results of the first edition and establish this Festival as a benchmark event in the national gastronomic circuit," he adds.
Throughout the three days, the program also features several entertainment events. On the first day of the event, the program begins with a showcooking session led by chef Glediston Santos, from 5:00 pm to 6:30 pm. Next up will be a performance by DJ Carlos Bentes, starting at 6:00 PM, and a performance by gymnasts from Acro Al-Buhera, starting at 7:30 PM. Back in the kitchen, there's another demonstration at 6:30 PM, this time by Miguel Gameiro and chef Nuno Bergonse. Before the closing show by "Miguel Gameiro & Pólo Norte" at 9:30 PM, there's also a "spicy cocktail" workshop with bartender Francisco Guilherme at 8:00 PM.
On Saturday, July 12th, the program begins at 12:30 PM with a performance by "Duo Piri Piri." This will be followed by a workshop dedicated to "Planting Piri Piri," where participants can learn how to plant piri piri peppers in small vegetable gardens. After the "Manouchka" concert at 3:30 PM, there will be another cooking demonstration, scheduled to begin at 3:30 PM, by chef Mauro Sousa.

Throughout the day, highlights include the "Pagode do Algarve" performances at 4:30 PM and "Jamaica Connection" at 9:30 PM. In between, there's still time for another workshop dedicated to exploring the flavors of pepper in chocolate, with chef Bruno Santos, at 6 PM, and a spicy food competition, scheduled for 9 PM. Before that, chef Ruth Falcão will lead another culinary demonstration at 7:30 PM, dedicated to the flavors of Angola.
The third and final day of the event begins at 12:30 PM, with musical entertainment provided by the group "Al Fanfarre" and the ensemble "Ópera Picante." The "Spicy Seasonings and Spices" workshop starts at 2:30 PM and will be accompanied by a performance by the "Scooby Trio" at 3 PM. There will be a demonstration of "Sea picante" by chef Renato Bonfim at 4 pm, and a "picante" stand-up comedy show at 5:30 pm. Just like the previous day, the seasoning competition returns at 6:30 pm. The festival concludes with a "Rédea Curta" concert at 8:30 pm.
