The warning for Bragança, Porto, Vila Real, Viana do Castelo, and Braga will last until 6 p.m. on Tuesday, when it will be replaced by an orange warning (in the case of Vila Real and Bragança), and a yellow warning in the remaining districts.
In addition to the red warning, all other districts are already under an orange warning until 6 p.m. on Tuesday, with the exception of Beja, which will be yellow.
Faro is once again the only district on the mainland without any warning.
After 6 p.m. on Tuesday, other warnings, ranging from orange to yellow, will remain in effect for all districts until Thursday, with the exception of Beja.
Mainland Portugal has been on alert since Sunday and until Thursday due to a high risk of fires, the Minister of Internal Administration announced on Saturday.
A red warning is the highest on the scale used by the IPMA and represents a meteorological situation of extreme risk, while orange, the second most severe, is issued for a "meteorological situation of moderate to high risk," and yellow is issued whenever there is a risk situation for certain activities depending on the weather.
Hot weather and partly cloudy or clear skies are expected today, with more cloud cover in the western Algarve, and generally light winds, temporarily moderate to strong in the Algarve. A drop in maximum temperatures is expected in the south.
Évora will be the hottest region, with 40°C, and Faro the least hot, with 28°C.
Guess what? It is still summer :-)
