The dossier "was initiated by the municipality two years ago," in "close" collaboration with the Public Security Police and the National Republican Guard, entities that "timely" submitted the process to the Ministry of Internal Affairs for review and approval, the municipality explained in a statement.
"Despite the efforts and contacts made with the government and the Minister of Internal Affairs, the municipality has not yet received approval for the installation of the desired video surveillance system, facing yet another peak tourist season without CCTV," it reads.
For the municipality led by Nuno Pereira (PS), the situation "is aggravated by the security forces' insufficient human resources to fulfil their mission throughout the year."
"The municipality will inform the entities responsible for, and involved in, the decision of the content of this motion, in the hope that the initiative will help unblock the process," emphasised the Lagos City Council.
