The Minister of Infrastructure and Housing, speaking at the Portuguese Road and Rail Congress, also defended the need to “maximise investments in terms of infrastructure”, which Pinto Luz admits are not cheap, “but are investments in the future of all of us”.
“Cheap ends up being expensive if we do not have an integrated vision,” reiterated the minister, arguing that the government that emerges from the elections on 18 May must take this challenge into account.
In his speech, the minister also spoke about the economic and financial sustainability of the infrastructure that is built, giving the discussion around tolls as an example.
“A large part of these infrastructures that feed the unfairly treated territorial fabric do not have enough traffic for economic and financial sustainability, it is a non-discussion, there is no balance and balanced risk distribution as we have in metropolitan regions”, pointed out Pinto Luz.
The governor also addressed the situation in the region around the future Luís de Camões airport, in the Alcochete area. The location is “absolutely defined and crystallized”, so it is now possible to define territory with a structural vision.
