According to the National Emergency and Civil Protection Authority website, 1,871 firefighters were involved in the five fires classified as significant incidents, supported by 585 ground and 25 air resources.

The fires in Tabuaço (Viseu), Trancoso (Guarda), Sirarelhos (Vila Real), Sátão (Viseu), and Arganil (Coimbra) were ongoing, while two other significant fires—Vilarinho do Monte (Macedo de Cavaleiros) and Ermidas do Sado (Santiago do Cacém)—were being extinguished and were not in danger of spreading.

The fire, burning in the Alvão mountain range in Vila Real, in a steeply sloping area, has been burning for 12 days. It started at 11:45 PM on August 2nd, was already extinguished, and was reactivated twice on Saturday and Monday afternoons, and is still active.

The fire, which started in Sirarelhos, was being fought by 434 firefighters, 144 ground vehicles, and two air vehicles.

The fire that broke out on Saturday afternoon in the Freches area, in the municipality of Trancoso, district of Guarda, involved the largest number of resources, with 522 firefighters, supported by 168 vehicles and six aerial vehicles.

The fire raging in the parish of Távora e Pinheiro, in the municipality of Tabuaço, district of Viseu, active since early Monday morning, involved 311 firefighters on the ground, supported by 94 ground vehicles and one aerial vehicle.

The fire in the Piódão area, in Arganil, district of Coimbra, was being fought by 433 firefighters, 129 ground vehicles, and nine aerial vehicles.

This fire resulted from the progression of the fire that broke out on Sunday in Covilhã, district of Castelo Branco, and has been under control since Tuesday morning.

The forest fire in the Ermidas-Sado area, in the municipality of Santiago do Cacém, which broke out on Tuesday afternoon, entered the containment phase today, with 192 firefighters and 65 ground resources still on site. Also in the containment phase was the fire in Vilarinho do Monte, in the municipality of Macedo de Cavaleiros, where 60 firefighters and 21 ground resources were present.

In total, as of 12:05 p.m., 2,796 firefighters were on the ground fighting rural fires nationwide, supported by 867 vehicles and 17 aerial resources.

The government extended the alert status until the end of Friday, due to weather forecasts, which point to rising temperatures and an increased risk of rural fires.
