According to the IPMA, the orange warning will be in effect until 6:00pm on Tuesday in Vila Real, Castelo Branco, Santarém, and Lisbon, due to persistently high maximum temperatures, extending until 11:00pm in the district of Viseu.
In the districts of Bragança, Guarda, Portalegre, Évora, Beja, Setúbal, and Faro, it will remain in effect until midnight on Tuesday.
The districts of Viana do Castelo, Braga, Porto, Aveiro, Coimbra, and Leiria are under a yellow warning, the least severe on a three-level warning scale, until 6 pm on Tuesday.
The government renewed the country's alert status until Wednesday, August 13, due to the risk of forest fires.
Among the measures in effect are the prohibition of access, movement, and permanence within forest areas, in accordance with the Municipal Forest Fire Defense Plans, as well as the carrying out of burning and slash-and-burn activities. Authorizations issued for this period are also suspended.
The alert status also prohibits work in forest and rural areas using machinery and the use of fireworks and other pyrotechnic devices. In this case, any authorizations already issued will also be suspended.
The IPMA forecasts a slight drop in temperatures in the North and Central regions and a slight rise in the South today.
Minimum temperatures will range from 15°C (degrees Celsius) in Viana do Castelo and Braga to 25°C (degrees Celsius) in Portalegre, and maximum temperatures will range from 25°C (Viana do Castelo) to 43°C (Beja and Évora).
