This project, led by LIPOR and its Associated Municipalities, sets out to raise awareness of recycling while using proceeds to provide equipment to improve the quality of life for many people. Over the course of 18 years, it has seen more than 1,000 tonnes of plastic bottle caps collected and recycled, with over €668.254,00 invested in orthopaedic and similar equipment, and 745 organisations supported.

The delivery of equipment in the 20th phase has culminated in a legacy of solidarity, cooperation, commitment to the community and the environment. This decision to bring the project to an end comes in response to new legislation requiring plastic caps to remain attached to their bottles, fundamentally altering the model on which the initiative was based.

LIPOR has expressed its gratitude to the many individuals, institutions and partners who participated in the shaping of the project over nearly two decades. “Bottle Caps” Operation has been a shining example of what can be achieved when communities unite around a common cause, the organisation said.

While this chapter has ended, LIPOR assures that its mission will continue, with new projects soon to be announced as it remains dedicated to building a more just, inclusive and sustainable communities.
