This project aims to "create conditions that encourage pedestrian and bicycle travel, promote a higher quality of public space, road safety, and universal accessibility," while also improving infrastructure networks, according to Sul Informação.

A section of the road system will be removed, including the median, which will be reduced from 2 metres to 50 centimetres, while maintaining four traffic lanes.

The area designated for pedestrian and bicycle traffic will be increased, while allowing the street to "maintain its hierarchy as a main distribution route."

In addition to the new two-way bike path east of the avenue, which is at least 2.5 meters wide, pedestrian-accessible sidewalks must have a usable width greater than 1.20 meters, according to the preliminary project study.

Conflicting trees will be removed, and trees will be planted in areas that do not conflict with pedestrian traffic.

The intervention, provisionally estimated at €3.9 million, includes, in addition to the redesign of the entire road and pedestrian component of the street, the integration of a landscape architectural project and the redesign of all existing urban infrastructure, such as water, sewage, stormwater, electricity, telecommunications, urban waste, and others.

The project includes renovations along the entire length of Laginha Serafim Avenue in Loulé, a section of Ascensão Guimarães Street (from Padre António Vieira Street to Salgueiro Maia Square), and the public space on Maria José Cabeçadas Street near the Municipal Swimming Pools and the access to the Municipal Park.
